Creed Aventus vs Lie 38: An Honest Aventus Dupe Comparison

Creed Aventus vs Lie 38: An Honest Aventus Dupe Comparison

By Stefano, founder of The Sweetest Lie | Updated September 2026

Creed Aventus is the men's fragrance that turned niche perfume mainstream. Since 2010 it has been the most discussed "compliment getter" on fragrance forums โ€” and in Australia a 100ml bottle costs well over $500. This is an honest comparison between Aventus and our inspired version, Lie 38 โ€” our Creed Aventus dupe ($55): where it matches, where it doesn't, and who should buy which.

What Creed Aventus smells like

Aventus opens with a bright burst of pineapple, blackcurrant, bergamot and apple โ€” fruity but dry rather than sweet. Within about twenty minutes a smoky birch note comes forward, giving it that signature "fruit over campfire" character. It dries down to a clean base of musk, oakmoss, ambergris and a touch of vanilla.

Layer Notes
Top Pineapple, blackcurrant, bergamot, apple
Heart Birch, jasmine, rose, patchouli
Base Musk, oakmoss, ambergris, vanilla

New to reading a notes pyramid? Our guide to top, middle and base notes explains how each layer behaves on skin.

Why people look for an Aventus dupe

  • Price: it is one of the most expensive mainstream men's fragrances on Australian shelves.
  • Batch variation: Aventus is famous for smelling noticeably different from one production batch to the next โ€” some smokier, some fruitier.
  • Availability: stock in Australia is patchy, and grey-market bottles carry their own risks.

How Lie 38 compares

Scent

Lie 38 is built around the same pineapple-and-birch structure: a bright fruity opening, a smoky woody heart and a clean musky dry-down. Worn on its own, it reads clearly as the Aventus style.

Where it differs: side by side on paper strips, the original has a slightly more complex, textured smoke in the first hour. That comes from expensive natural materials we can't use at this price. Once both have settled on skin, the difference is much smaller.

Performance

Lie 38 is Eau de Parfum strength. Expect most of a working day on skin, noticeably longer on clothing, with moderate projection. The original generally projects harder in the first couple of hours. Results vary by skin โ€” our tips for making perfume last longer help with any fragrance.

Price

Lie 38 is $55 for 50ml.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lie 38 a good Creed Aventus dupe?

It captures the defining pineapple-and-birch character and wears very similarly once settled. It isn't a molecule-for-molecule copy โ€” no dupe is.

How long does Lie 38 last?

Most of a working day on skin for most people, longer on clothes. Apply to moisturised pulse points.

Can I wear it in Australian summer?

Yes. The fruity opening works in warm weather; go lighter on sprays in high heat.

Is it vegan?

Yes โ€” every fragrance we make is vegan and cruelty-free.
